“love”

film PHOTOGRAPHY; 08/2020

THIS PIECE WAS A PART OF MY semester PROJECT, FOR MY high school PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS (ap 2d art and design, 2020 junior year, INSTRUCTED BY brian guilfoyle).

For this project, we were assigned to choose and develop an overall concept and create 15 concentrations. My concept was “Youth”

Artist statement:

these photos signify how I portray the concept of love. Love is a huge factor in life as it is the driving force between every dynamic of my family. My two different lives in both Korea and America were both built upon love that I am lucky to receive and experience. If it were not for my grandparents and their bravery, I wouldn't even be spending my youth in America. So when I look at the long and strong love that my grandparents have had for one another, I find myself loving them even more, almost as if the love is reflective. I added a progression of two photos to really bring out the wholesomeness of my grandparent’s relationship as well. In terms of experimentation, I added a more glowy and soft effect on the photos in order to, again, highlight the wholesome love of the models. I also adjusted the saturation of the piece all throughout the placement process to make the colors pop. Love is an exciting and happy emotion so I wanted to express that not just through facial expressions, but through color too.

I am so grateful to have this emotion of love that is received from other loved ones, because in the end, being able to love is part of what makes us human.
