“fear food”

digital PHOTOGRAPHY + illustrations + scans; 10/2020

THIS PIECE WAS A PART OF MY semester PROJECT, FOR MY high school PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS (ap 2d art and design, 2020 junior year, INSTRUCTED BY brian guilfoyle).

For this project, we were assigned to choose and develop an overall concept and create 15 concentrations. My concept was “Youth”

Artist statement:

Fear food visualizes how hard it feels to eat while struggling with eating disorders. All food becomes numbers, hence the nutrient label, and food seems to be perceived differently. No one else’s opinions can penetrate this mindset while struggling with eating disorders, so I decided to block the other subject’s eyes. In terms of experimentation, I wasn’t very sure on keeping the morphed plate, however I kept it as it shows how the view of food turns “bad” in this mindset. Additionally, I tinted the piece more green to emphasize the sickening feeling of having to eat when not wanting to.
