Artist statement:

These photos are surrounded around unique-ness. I think that all of these photos include unique concepts whether it be different colored lights, makeup, and color contrasts. Every single one of these photos were based off of unique images that have caught my eye and piqued my artistic interest throughout my high school and recent college years. In addition, these are all models and/or photographers that I have been huge fans of. Some parameters that I set for myself in choosing famous portraits were to choose photos that I felt like I could get close to the original photo without losing a sense of my own artistic influence. Additionally, I tried to choose photos that included a range of colors within the overall compositions.

For all four photos, I had to use some sort of lighting equipment and prop. For this photo, I used a combination of a light stick, light reflector, and a phone flashlight. The props for this photo included a TV, a chair, and false bangs. In order to get the image onto the screen, I took a photo of the model with my phone and quickly edited it, sent it to my laptop via email, and then hooked it up to the TV with a HDMI cord. All of these photos had a long technical process of adjusting a lot of angles, poses, and apertures. I would ask the subjects to move closer or further depending on how the light would hit them, while also moving myself in order to capture the correct amount of light and the correct angle. I would set the light sources in accordance to where I could see the catchlight in the reference photos’ models’ eyes, and would intensify/diffuse the light sources as well.
