THIS PIECE WAS A PART OF MY ARCHITECTURE PROJECT, “you vs google”, FOR MY PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS (FNAR115, 2023 FALL SEMESTER, INSTRUCTED BY JANAE CONTAG).
For this project, we were assigned to choose and photograph different building/structures. we then were asked to compare our final photo to the photo that google maps captured. The concept for this project needed to tied into our final project. Thus, i choose to connect the successes of the korean immigrant community in st. louis, mo to my final project which touches on the hardship and culture of korean immigrants.
Artist statement:
The concept for my set of images are based around the success of Korean immigrants in America. Specifically, I decided to choose St. Louis county, primarily Chesterfield, as this is where I grew up and watched as the Korean community grew. Fortunately, I timed my photos at great times. The sun was out the whole day, and I had no issues with photographing outside. I wanted my photos to be a warmer temperature so I planned to shoot these photos all within the afternoon time frame. I would say that the majority of my photos turned out better than the Google Street View images. This is mostly due to the fact that the Google Street View’s angles and positioning were very limited, therefore my photos had better framing
